HIKE THROUGH
CORCOVADO NATIONALPARK |
|
|
|
1. Tag |
San Jose
- Puerto Jimenez: Flight from San José to
Puerto Jiménez. After the formalities with the park administration there
is time to stroll along the beach in Puerto Jimenez before having dinner
in one of the small, typical restaurants
|
|
|
|
2. Tag |
Corcovado
/ Cerro de Oro: Take the morning bus to La
Palma (around 45 minutes) close to Corcovado National Park and hike from
here through different kinds of vegetation; several times you will
have to cross the river Rio Rincón until reaching the small gold
prospectors settlement Unioro. Here you will spend the night in very
rustic rooms with shared baths. The afternoon is at your disposal to
explore the surrounding rainforest. Several trails lead into the dense
forest and to places with spectacular views of the vegetation of the
national park; with some luck you might even spot scarlet macaws,
monkeys or other inhabitants of the rainforest.
|
|
|
|
3. Tag |
Corcovado
/ from Los Patos to Sirena:
Very early departure for a second hike of
around 25 km - approx. 8 hours. Our trail leads us first around 2.5 km
to the park entrance and then to the ranger station Los Patos (3 more
km), where we will be served a hearty breakfast. We continue through
exciting, pristine rainforest. In the late afternoon we will arrive at
the ranger and research station Sirena on the Pacific coast ... never
before has a shower been so refreshing... - and the dinner prepared by the
ranger cook, could not be more delicious!
|
|
|
|
4. Tag |
Corcovado
/ La Sirena:
All around the ranger station, there are well-marked hiking trails,
leading through different vegetation areas of the rain forest. We will observe
birds, monkeys and peccaries (wild pigs) in the dense forest, crabs and
iguanas on the beach or ... The sunsets from the porch of the ranger
station are unforgettable: herds of monkeys, scarlet macaws, toucans and
many other birds inhabiting the surrounding trees allow us to experience
the rainforest with all our senses. There is also the possibility to
explore the jungle river Rio Sirena by canoe |
|
|
|
5. Tag |
Corcovado
/ Sirena - Carate - Pto. Jiménez:
Early in the morning we leave this little
paradise for our last hike to Carate (around 16 km). Our departure time
will depend on the tide as we will have to cross two rivers at low tide.
We will hike south along the Pacific Ocean: partly walking on deserted,
pristine beaches. Again, our hike will be accompanied by scarlet macaws
and other animals of the rainforest until the ranger station La Leona
and then Carate, where we will be picked up by a Jeep-Taxi that will
take us back to Puerto Jimenez |
|
|
|
6. Tag |
Puerto Jimenez - San Jose:
After breakfast there is time to stroll around the small village Puerto Jimenez.
Around midday we will fly back to San Jose and civilisation. |
